Berea Elks Lodge #1815

October 2025

a message from the Exalted Ruler

Dear Elks Members,

I want to share some insights about The Elks National Foundation, commonly known as the ENF. For almost a century, members of the Elks have been contributing to this foundation, which continues to bring us all together in service to our communities.

The ENF's mission is all about helping Elks strengthen their communities. We carry out this commitment by investing in the areas where Elks live and work. Our initiatives assist young people in developing lifelong skills, support students heading to college, address the needs of current veterans, contribute to charitable activities of state Elks associations, and fund projects that enhance the quality of life in local Elks communities.

Since it started, the ENF has donated over $500 million to Elks charitable projects across the country. Each year, our programs grow, enabling Elks to do even more to strengthen their communities.

The generosity of our donors makes it possible for the ENF to help Elks build stronger communities. Since its inception, we’ve received over $322.6 million in contributions and bequests. Currently, we have more than 124,000 active donors and an endowment fund valued at $868.5 million.

We have various programs including:

- Elks National Hoop Shoot Free Throw Program

- Elks Drug Awareness Program

- Veterans Service and Remembrance

- Elks National Veterans Service Commission

- Elks Veterans Memorial Maintenance

When you contribute to the Elks National Foundation, you’re doing more than funding just the Drug Awareness and "Hoop Shoot" programs. You’re also supporting the Community Investments Program, providing Emergency Educational Grants to children of deceased or completely disabled Elks, helping today's veterans, and maintaining the Elks National Memorial. In essence, you’re supporting Elkdom in your state.

During the 2024-25 Lodge year, the Elks of Ohio raised $378,778.94 for the ENF. In return, this year, the foundation will give back the following:

These grants will support your state’s major charitable project along with other philanthropic efforts. Parts of these grants will also back your state’s Drug Awareness Program, Hoop Shoot, Soccer Shoot, and educational programs.

- State Charities Grant: $225,110.00

- Special Projects Grant: $166,080.00

- Bonus Grant: $47,190.00

We will also award 17 Most Valuable Student scholarships to high school seniors from your state, along with up to 8 Legacy scholarships for the children, grandchildren, and stepchildren of Elks.

- Most Valuable Student: $68,000.00

- Legacy Award: $32,000.00

Additionally, we provide funding to the Elks National Veterans Service Commission to support its volunteers working in veterans' hospitals and medical centers.

PER Eric Banks is the Chairman of ENF for the Berea Elks Lodge. Thanks to his efforts and our contributions, we’ve ranked 1st in the state for four years in a row, and we’re hoping to clinch that spot again for a five year! If you are not currently donating to ENF, reach out to a Lodge Officer for details on how you too can be a part of the good works of your Elks Lodge.

Fraternally,
Debbie Greenhill, Exalted Ruler

Ohio Buckeye Bucks Calendars

Once again, the Elks Buckeye Calendar fund- raiser has returned. The calendars are now avail- able in the lounge. No inflation price-raising; the cost is still $20. For your $20 you get a 4-digit number in the Ohio Lottery’s twice daily drawing. And you have the same number all year. That’s 730 chances to win. If your number is drawn on a weekday, you win $50. Weekends is $100. On the ten holidays, you win $500.

Last year we sold 137 calendars, by only 21 members. This year it would be great if we in- creased both numbers.

Our coveted Lodge number, 1815, is going to be raffled off, through our “Deck of Cards” raffle. Only 50¢ for a chance to win. Last year’s winner, John Masterson hopes to repeat.

Bar and Kitchen Help needed

We are in need of additional volunteers to help in the bar and kitchen. Kitchen help can be disherwashers or occasional cooks. For the bar, we are in the process of bringing back our Saturday celebrity guest bartenders to help. If you have any interest or desire to help out, please reach out Trustee chairman Kevin Maloney or Secretary Jeff Coyle.

Welcome new members

In September we initiated three members into our Lodge. Steve Greenhill, Patrick Greenhill, and Charles Lambert. Be sure to introduce yourself the next time you see them at the Lodge!
