The Berea Elks, working closely with the Berea Fire Department, received a $750 Community Service Grant from the Ohio Elks Association to help fund new smoke detectors and community lockboxes.
Berea Fire Department provides free smoke detectors to low and fixed-income residents who otherwise could not afford to safeguard their homes and families.
Additionally, Berea Fire and Berea Police have a special lockbox program available for seniors and disabled persons where a home’s master key is securely stored in an outdoor lockbox. In the event of an emergency this key can be accessed by first responders preventing the need to break down a door to save a life. Only first responders have access to this lockbox.
The Berea Fire Department is grateful to the Berea Elks for their generosity and continued support of key programs like this in our community.
